TEXTBOOK: Basic Abstract Algebra
(2nd edition) by P. B. Bhattacharya, S. K. Jain and S. R. Nagpaul,
Cambridge University Press, ISBN 0-521-46629-6.
The lectures will be based on this textbook mostly.
ALTERNATIVE TEXTBOOK: Abstract Algebra (3rd edition)
by David S. Dummit and Richard M. Foote, John Wiley & Sons Inc., ISBN 0-471-43334-9. This textbook contains the materials we cover in the course.

Each homework set should be turned in on the due day at the beginning of the class.
Your performance in the homework will affect your letter grades by the end of
the semester.

Exams
There are two in-class midterm exams and a final exam, all submitted in hard-copy and all held at 407 Classroom South (CS).

First Exam: 10/02/2024 (Wednesday), 12:30–1:45pm, closed book/notes, no calculators.

Second Exam: 11/06/2024 (Wednesday), 12:30–1:45pm, closed book/notes, no calculators.

Final Exam: 12/16/2024 (Monday), 10:45am–1:15pm,
closed book/notes, no calculators.
The final exam will be cumulative with a slight emphasis on
the materials not covered in the two midterm exams.
