Crowd Dynamics on Foot Bridges

Our recent paper in Science Advances, "Foot force models of crowd dynamics on a wobbly bridge" has received a considerable amount of media attention! We have been in The New York Times, Physics World, and Popular Science. Below is a teaser of the project from Igor and Russell:

It was also featured on the GSU homepage. Here is a link to the permanent article from GSU.

In this project, we consider the complex nature of the interactions between pedestrians and foot bridges, and what about these interactions can lead to bridge wobbling or even failure.

Robotic Fish

Russell Jeter

One of our research projects on stochastic "on-off" dynamical networks was currently featured on the GSU homepage. In this project, we consider the potential for networks of stochastically communicating robotic fish to act in unison in an effort to use robotic fish to school with real fish. It is part of an on-going collaboration with Dr. Maurizio Porfiri from NYU. Click here for a permanant link to the story.
