2016 ICSA Applied Statistics Symposium

Welcome to the 2016 International Chinese Statistical Association (ICSA) Applied Statistical Symposium!

This year we gather here for the 25th ICSA annual symposium. The theme of this conference is the Challenge of Big Data and Applications of Statistics, which is in recognition of the advent of big data era. The executive and organizing committees have been working diligently to put together a strong and comprehensive program including nine short courses, three keynote lectures, 134 scientific sessions, one student paper session and exciting social events. Our scientific program includes keynote lectures from renowned statisticians Dr. Bin Yu (University of California, Berkeley), Dr. David Madigan (Columbia University) and Dr. Paul Albert (National Institute of Health), and invited, topic contributed, contributed talks reflecting recent advances and challenges in statistics, business statistics and biostatistics, which are closely related to Big Data analysis. As suggested by the 2015 ICSA President Dr. Wei Shen, we are delighted to inform that during the conference we will also offer a free career service for graduate students.

With your full support, this symposium attracts more than 660 statisticians working in academia, government, and industry from all over the world. We hope that the symposium offers great opportunities for learning, networking and recruiting, and that you will receive inspirations from old research ideas and develop new ones. Social events in this 2016 ICSA Symposium include mixer (Sunday, June 12 evening), banquet (Tuesday, June 14 – banquet speaker will be Dr. Michael Eriksen) and a trip to the Stone Mountain (Wednesday, June 15th, 1-6pm). We believe this conference will be a memorable, interesting and enjoyable experience for all of you.

The city of Atlanta enjoys a mild climate throughout the year, and is accessible from most cities across the North America. Downtown Atlanta provides numerous opportunities for dining, shopping and lodging, etc. In addition, Atlanta offers world-class attractions, including the World of Coca Cola, the CNN Center, and the Centennial Olympic Park that are within walking distance from our event hotel Hyatt Regency Atlanta. 2016 ICSA Symposium Book Posted on July 14, 2016

Dear Speakers in the 2016 ICSA Symposium,

Thank you very much for participating in the 25th ICSA Applied Statistics Symposium and sharing with us your cutting-edge research. We hope you enjoyed the successful symposium held in the beautiful city of Atlanta.

Professors Jiahua Chen and Din Chen, the co-editors of the ICSA Springer book series, would like to showcase the scientific output for our statistics symposium by making a book, which reflects new challenges and advances in the contemporary data era. We welcome submissions from all areas of statistics, data science and interdisciplinary areas. Submitted papers are expected to present new methods in statistics and data science, new theories, and case applications, etc.

Below are our plans:

1. You are encouraged to submit your research that you presented in the 2016 ICSA Symposium or another paper that is related to the one presented.

2. To include high quality papers to the book, all submissions will be subject to peer review. Each submission will also be independently reviewed by the co-editors. The final accepted papers will be those selected by the co-editors.

3. To make the process moves very smoothly,

a. If you agree to submit a paper, we need you to indicate your intent of submission by Sept. 15, 2016, with a tentative title of the paper (you can change the title later), your name (first, middle and last), and your affiliation. Please email this information to Yichuan Zhao at yichuan@gsu.edu.

b. A manuscript is sent to Yichuan Zhao by Dec. 30, 2016. The decision will be reached by April 30, 2017.

c. The book is expected to appear on August 30, 2017.
