Policy on homework assignments

Academic Honesty

All homework assignments and tests must be completed individually and independently. Cheating and plagiarism are strictly forbidden. A first occurrence will result in a grade of zero of the assignment for all concerned parties as well as an Academic Dishonesty form being filed with the Dean of Students. A second occurrence will result in a grade of F for the course and a second Academic Dishonesty form being filed.

You are allowed to use the class notes/textbooks and discuss with classmates when you study your homework. However, you must complete all homework yourself without help from other people, resource or anything that is other people's work (including but not limited to solution manual and online solution websites), otherwise it is considered as a violation of the academic honesty code, and you will be penalized as described above. See the University's policy on academic honesty according to the Code of Conduct.

Instructions for Online Assignment Submission

Prepare your answers:

  • Solve problems on scratch paper, clean up your steps and write your answers clearly on white or ruled papers. Answers without steps will not receive credit.

  • Label the number of each problem.

  • Sort your answers in the same order as in the announced problem list.

Prepare a PDF version of your homework:

  • If you typed your homework in LaTeX or wrote your homework in a note-taking app, then directly export it as a single PDF.

  • If you wrote your homework on traditional papers, then you need to scan your homework into a single PDF file. You can use ClearScanner iOS/Android (or any similar smart phone apps) to scan and crop it properly. Here is an example scan. Grading is based on the scan only, so make the image quality as good as possible.

  • If computer programming is involved, you should also print your code and all its output as PDF like this (MATLAB and Python editors can print code and output as PDFs directly).

  • You can only upload a single PDF. So you may use the online tool to combine your written solution and the code/output PDFs into one.

Instruction for online submission:

  • Rename the PDF by your 9-digit Panther ID number. For example, if your ID is 123-45-6789, then name your file as 123456789.pdf. Always use this filename when you submit any work.

  • Homework must be submitted on iCollege. After you click in the course page on iCollege, find “Assessment” tab on the top and click in “Assignments”. Upload your PDF file to the folder labeled by the homework number. This folder is open for submission until the due time.

  • You can update your submission anytime before its due. Only the last PDF you upload will be kept in the system.

  • Double check the file you just uploaded. Grading is completely based on it.

  • Homework sent to the instructor's email will not be graded.

Note: Submissions not complying all rules above will not be accepted or graded at the instructor's discretion. In this case, the student receives zero point for the assignment (no resubmission allowed). No exceptions.
